It’s been a long time coming, and we are so stoked to announce that we’re finally hosting a festival on Texas Tech’s campus.
The inaugural Back to School Bash will span two days before classes begin on August 17 and 18. Our Saturday headliner is none other than Noah Kahan while Sunday will be headlined by the incredible Maggie Rogers.
“When we sat down to put this lineup together, Noah and Maggie seperately felt like pipe dreams to book,” said Andrew Watters, marketing director for KTXT. “To have both of them on the bill is an absolute dream come true.”
Watters, along with live music coordinator Danny Ramirez, served as the primary talent buyers but input came from all of the staff.
“It’s something we’ve both been wanting to do for so long. We just never thought we’d be able to do it at this scale and at this level our first year,” said Ramirez.
Saturday is also set to feature Turnpike Troubadours, Mt. Joy, CAAMP, Briscoe, Grady Spencer & the Work, and local artists Clement Hall and Voidream.
“Mt. Joy is going to be a really magical set,” said Watters. “I don’t want to say too much but what I will say for now is that it’ll be a sunset set for the ages.”
On Sunday, Wallows, Lizzy McAlpine, Alvvays, Tash Sultana, Briston Maroney, Malcom Todd, and two more local artists, Velvet Grove and Paint Rock, will accompany Rogers.
“It was really important to put an emphasis on local bands,” said Ramirez. “We have local music on Good Morning Texas Tech every Friday and that’s a good platform but this is going to be a great platform.”
The lineup poster is posted below:
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday at this link. They’ll be $200 for two days before fees and $125 for single days before fees. There will also be a presale code that you can only access by climbing to the top of our telecommunication tower near the Womble basketball facility. You can also get it by paying our general manager, DG, $1 million dollars cash, delivered in a burlap sack with a dollar sign drawn on it like a cartoon.
If you haven’t caught my drift yet, I hope you have a fantastic April Fools day.
One day KTXT will hopefully be able to bring you a festival of this size and magnitude but until then, we’ll keep playing and supporting all of these artists until we can’t anymore. Hope you don’t hate me.
