Album Review: “Hysteria” by Indigo Sparke

Going into this one, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I’m not familiar with Indigo Sparke, maybe minus a few songs, but I’ll also never say no to new music. So, with my headphones charged and my notepad open, I dove into one of the newest artists within my library. Indigo Sparke really blew me away with their newest album titled: “Hysteria.”

The opening song Blue really set the tone for the rest of the album. I wasn’t expecting such a full sound from this album, but this album quickly exceeded my expectations within 10 seconds of the first song. Blue does a great job of not only setting a common tempo but layering the music and lyrics to a point that makes each individual song feel meticulously crafted and full of life. She very much reminds me of a much more indie sounding Taylor Swift or perhaps the leading producer for the Twilight Soundtrack. However, I love the sound this album creates.

The album started production early during the COVID-19 Pandemic when Sparke was stuck in quarantine. With the state of the world at an all time low, and mental health rapidly on the decline, Sparke started production on this album to help her cope with not only what was happening in the present, but more importantly, the ghosts of her past. Sparke really went all out with this album, weaving intense and heartfelt lyrics with the sound of a guitar that surely can’t be missed. Not only that, but Indigo Sparke also teamed up with Aaron Dessner to create the sound of this album. Aaron is most popularly known for his work with Taylor Swift on her albums Folklore and Evermore. Which justifies my statement earlier very well.

So overall, Indigo Sparke created a very moving album, full of feelings and intensity. This album does well to draw listeners in with its sound, then open their eyes to the feelings of the artist, whether you asked for it or not. This 14-track masterpiece is definitely not one to sleep on.
