Julia Jacklin’s newest and fourth album is full of bittersweet feelings about love, family relationships, and one’s self. Most of the songs on the album are played at a slow pace, reminiscent of cafe music in a way.
This was my first time listening to Julia Jacklin, and I found her voice to be very lovely. It has a very real quality to it and on occasion she lets her emotion shine through her words.
“Be Careful With Yourself” and “Love, Try Not To Let Go” were a little faster than other songs on the album, but only in certain parts of the song. The difference in tempos and style throughout these two songs was a little jarring to me personally.
However, my personal favorite song, “I Was Neon,” was more of an upbeat tempo throughout the song, and it had a strongly defined chorus which made it very tempting to sing along to. This song was also strongly about personal reflection making it very easy to relate to.
If looking for something soft to listen to in the background during studying, or even if looking for something to encourage life reflection, then this is the album for that.
