Album Review: “FULL TIME LOVER” by Eyedress

As an exclusive indie music listener, Eyedress was never an artist I really took the time to dive into, until now. Prior to listening to FULL TIME LOVER, I knew very little about Eyedress’ music, and really wasn’t sure of what to expect going into this. However, after listening to this album as well as more of Eyedress’ discography for a week straight, my opinions have changed.

It feels like Eyedress had 3 different styles in mind going into making this album, which I subconsciously turned into 3 different subsections.  Section one: That Bass is Funky. The first few songs start this album off with heavy bass and a very post punk feel, making it feel like these songs came right out of a high-speed chase scene in a movie. My favorite tune from this first “part” of the album is “DREAM DEALER” and its heavy bass line clashing with Eyedress’ soft-spoken vocals.

The transition between “I DON’T DIAL 911” and “STILL IN LOVE” start the next subsection of this album, which I like to call: The 80s called, they want their Indie back. In all seriousness, this was probably my favorite part of the album. Starting with “STILL IN LOVE” and ending with “SHROOMS IN DISNEYLAND,” this mid-section features an 80s sounding synth with lo-fi and indie based undertones. Not only is this my favorite section of the album, but it also features my favorite song from Eyedress’ entire discography: “SPAGHETTI.” I found this song prior to listening for this review and it has been my go-to chill out song ever since. It is a perfect combination of “chill lo-fi beats to study to” and “weird indie songs about food.” It’s an easy listen, so if you take anything away from this review, do yourself a favor and listen to this one.

Now, for the third and final section of this album, aptly titled: It’s a Trap. This section includes more modern-day trap beats paired with musical guests who specialize in that genre. This is overall my least favorite section of the album, however, the beats laced within this section make for a refreshing feel that wraps it up nicely. My favorite song from this section is probably “MR. NICE GUY” as it is the closest to indie as you can get for these last few songs.

Overall, Eyedress has crafted an eclectic collection of music being that this is his longest and most ambitious album to date. With an assembly of 28 songs and over an hour of playtime, Eyedress has given us a record worth listening to for its creative variety and ever-changing sound.
