(Geneva) — The World Health Organization is warning against complacency during the ongoing monkeypox outbreak. It said there’s no guarantee that cases will continue to primarily affect communities of gay and bisexual men. Instead, early detection among these groups could be the “canary in the mine” that’s alerting the world to a new threat of disease, according to one WHO official. This comes as the WHO activated its highest alert level for the outbreak Saturday by declaring monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern.
