(College Station, TX) — The heat wave that’s scorching the South is affecting prison populations. A new report from Texas A&M found units inside many of the Lone Star State’s lock-ups regularly reach 110 degrees. One unit even topped out at a blistering 149 degrees. Texas is one of 13 states that doesn’t have universal air conditioning in prisons, with only one-in-three getting cold air. The report called a lack of air conditioning a human rights violation.
