Spoon was originally founded in 1993 by Britt Daniel and Jim Eno in Austin, Texas. Their first album, Telephono, was released in 1996 with Matador Records. The band rose to fame after 2005 and continued making charts with their following albums. After listening to a couple of their albums, their sound is best described as indie rock, alternative rock, and even pop-rock.
Spoon’s most recent album “Lucifer on the Sofa” is a heavenly combination of blues and indie rock that has been extremely well received by fans. “Lucifer on the Sofa” is the band’s 10th album released on February 22nd of this year and will be taking Spoon back on tour! The song “Wild” captures the feeling of bouncing back from a funk and does an excellent job of bringing the album to life. “My Babe” mocks the idea that a relationship is just being stuck with the same person in the same walls every day/night and brings a loving passion to the song. This band has such a variety in its music I can happily recommend it to almost anyone.
It’s also important to note that Jim Eno has recently begun Project Traction to promote gender inclusivity in music production! In the past year alone, Eno has invited 8 women and non-binary artists to take part and produce music from Hi-Fi Studios. This band remains incredibly kind and humble in terms of the way they interact with fans as well as with their professionalism in the industry. While they may not be visiting Texas for their tour this round, I hope they eventually make it back out here.
