The Texas Tech Men’s basketball team grabbed its third Big 12 win in a row after defeating Oklahoma State 78-57.
Coming off back-to-back wins against top 10 teams in Kansas and Baylor, many suspected Tech would be in for a let down against the Cowboys. The opposite happened.
The Red Raiders dominated the Cowboys on both ends of the floor. The Cowboys did not score for the first three minutes and 50 seconds. After hitting only 11 threes in its last several games, Tech hit eight threes in the first half to build a substantial lead.
The Red Raiders are now 13-3 and 3-1 in the Big 12. Oklahoma State falls to 8-7 and 1-3 in Big 12.
First Half
Texas Tech opened the game on a red-hot 10-0 run highlighted by an alley-oop from Super Senior guard Adonis Arms.
The game would tighten up midway through the first half after the Cowboys found some momentum. Oklahoma State went on a 13-2 run to tie the game at 21.
Later in the first half, Arms regained the momentum for Tech by hitting back-to-back threes. The hot shooting gave Tech a 29-22 lead heading into the final minutes of the first half.
The Red Raiders would go on to make six of their final eight shots of the half while holding the Cowboys scoreless for the final two minutes and change. Tech led 42-27 at the break.
Arms led the way for Tech in the first half scoring 13 points while going five for eight from the floor. Arms also made all three of his first half three-pointers.
Not far behind Arms was Senior forward Kevin Obanor who scored 11 first half points while going three for four behind the arc.
Second Half
The Red Raider offense stayed hot to begin the second half. After the teams traded a few buckets, Super Senior forward Marcus Santos-Silva completed a tough three-point play to extend Tech’s lead to 50-34.
The Tech offense was still surging midway through the second half. Obanor and guard Davion Warren hit consecutive mid-range jumpers to give Tech a 62-46 lead.
Santos-Silva scored his tenth points to give the Red Raiders a 71-52 lead with under four minutes left to put the finishing touches on a dominant victory. The final score would read 78-57.
The Red Raider defense was once again key to securing a victory. Oklahoma State was held to just 32% shooting.
Cowboys Senior guard Bryce Williams struggled against the Tech defense. Williams, Oklahoma State’s leading scorer on the year, shot two for nine from the floor and was held to six points.
Kevin Obanor led the Red Raiders in scoring with 17 points shooting an efficient six of eight from the field.
Santos-Silva secured a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
