Texas Tech volleyball (13-10, 3-7 Big 12) will host the TCU Horned Frogs (8-10, 2-6 Big 12) Friday and Saturday at the United Supermarkets Arena.
The Red Raiders are coming off of two tough losses against Kansas State while TCU is coming off its bye week. Tech will look to get back on track against the lowest team in the Big 12 standings.
Both games will be aired at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday on KTXT-FM The Raider 88.1.
Back at Home
The Red Raiders last home outing was in the beginning of October against Iowa State. Since then, Tech has traveled to Oklahoma, had a bye week, and then went on the road to play Kansas State.
Head coach Tony Graystone said being back in front of the home crowd will have the team ready to play.
“I think it will be big, everybody stayed in touch with us and I don’t feel like we’ve lost any fans being out of town for so long.” Graystone said. “We’re still doing a good job of staying connected that way so we expect to be ready to come play.”
Middle blocker Karrington Jones said it is always exciting to play at home, especially against an in-state rival.
“I feel like the crowd is always gearing us up and getting us ready to play other teams.” Jones said. “TCU is a big game, it’s always a huge rival match . . . the crowd is definitely going to be important.”
The Red Raiders are 3-4 at home. Tech will hope to get two victories against TCU to get its home record to above .500.
Scouting the Horned Frogs
Graystone said the Horned Frogs have a balanced team with limited weaknesses.
“They’ve got some players that are matchup trouble, and they can do some things so they’re pretty balanced in terms of where their talent is.” Graystone said. “They don’t really have a weak place in their lineup.”
Horned frogs junior outside hitter Julia Adams leads TCU with 204 kills on the season. Behind her is middle blocker Afedo Manyang with 144 kills, outside hitter Taylor Railo with 146, and middle blocker Mykayla Myers with 143.
TCU has a lot of options offensively. Tech will look to slow them down and get back in the win column.
