Ng Officially Welcomed as Next Marlins GM

By Will Lanigan

The Miami Marlins welcomed in Kim Ng as the franchise’s next general manager on Monday.

She is the first female GM in the “Big Four” American sports leagues: Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, and the National Hockey League.

Additionally, Ng (pronounced “Ang”) is MLB’s second General Manager of Asian descent, after Farhan Zaidi, who was formerly the GM of the Los Angeles Dodgers and is now the President of Baseball Operations for the San Francisco Giants.

According to MLB, Mrs. Ng has over 30 years of experience working throughout Major League Baseball.  She spent 21 of those years working in the front offices of the Chicago White Sox, the New York Yankees, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Marlins now have MLB’s first black CEO (Hall of Fame shortstop Derek Jeter) and MLB’s first female GM (Mrs. Ng).

The Marlins in 2020 had their first playoff appearance since 2003, going 31-29 in the regular season.
