The winners of Major League Baseball’s Gold Glove Awards were recently announced.
The Gold Glove is issued annually by the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, recognizing the best defensive player at each position for each league.
Winners are as follows, in order of position:
American League
- Pitcher: GRIFFIN CANNING, Los Angeles Angels
- Catcher: ROBERTO PEREZ, Cleveland Indians
- First Base: EVAN WHITE, Seattle Mariners
- Second Base: CESAR HERNANDEZ, Cleveland Indians
- Third Base: ISAIAH KINER-FALEFA, Texas Rangers
- Shortstop: J.P. CRAWFORD, Seattle Mariners
- Left Field: ALEX GORDON, Kansas City Royals
- Center Field: LUIS ROBERT, Chicago White Sox
- Right Field: JOEY GALLO, Texas Rangers
National League
- Pitcher: MAX FRIED, Atlanta Braves
- Catcher: TUCKER BARNHART, Cincinnati Reds
- First Base: ANTHONY RIZZO, Chicago Cubs
- Second Base: KOLTEN WONG, St. Louis Cardinals
- Third Base: NOLAN ARENADO, Colorado Rockies
- Shortstop: JAVIER BAEZ, Chicago Cubs
- Left Field: TYLER O’NEILL, St. Louis Cardinals
- Center Field: TRENT GRISHAM, San Diego Padres
- Right Field: MOOKIE BETTS, Los Angeles Dodgers
Canning is the first Angel pitcher to win a Gold Glove since Mark Langston in 1995.
Perez won his second consecutive Gold Glove this season.
White, Grisham, and Robert won the award as a rookie.
2020 was Kiner-Falefa’s first full season as an infielder, spending some time at SS as well as 3B.
Gordon won his 4th consecutive Gold Glove, and 8th overall before announcing his retirement
Rizzo won the Gold Glove for the 3rd year in a row, and 4th in the last 5 season
Wong, at age 30, earned his 2nd in a row
Arenado earned his 8th consecutive
Betts won his 5th straight.
