Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve have finally delivered statements apologizing for the Astros’ sign-stealing scheme.
Speaking at a news conference at Houston’s spring training facility, Bregman said he was “really sorry” while Altuve said the team met on Wednesday to discuss what happened after MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred disciplined the Astros for using electronics to steal signs during
their 2017 World Series championship season and in 2018
when they went to the ALCS.
Astros owner Jim Crane didn’t do his team any favors, however, when he said the sign-stealing didn’t
impact the game.
While Bregman and Altuve gave succinct apologies, former Astro and current Yankee Gerrit Cole said he honestly had no idea any of the sign-stealing was going on and didn’t see any of it. Cole, an Astro during the 2018 and ’19 seasons, said he had nothing to apologize for regarding the scandal while addressing the media at the Yankees’
spring training facility.
