The Houston Texans have claimed cornerback Vernon Hargreaves off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Coach Bruce Arians benched the corner due to a lack of hustle and was then released yesterday. When asked about Hargreaves, he said “He didn’t look like he was hustling to go in for a tackle,” when he let up a 55-yard completion.
The Texans have upgraded their weak and banged up secondary just in the past month, as they traded for Gareon Conley who was a first-round draft pick in 2017 and now Hargreaves, who was also a first-round pick but in 2016.
Houston is notorious for their top-talented players getting injured. Long-time Texan, Jonathan Joseph has been dealing with a shoulder and neck injury for the whole season, Bradley Roby has missed the last 3 games from a hamstring injury, and rookie Lonnie Johnson missed last week with a concussion.
With a bunch of confusion in Houston’s secondary, on the season, they allow 277.3 passing yards a game, which is the 29th worst in the NFL.
The Texans are coming off from a bye week to travel to Baltimore and play Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.
