Harris County sues insulin manufacturers, health companies over price-fixing

Harris County is suing three insulin manufacturers and four pharmaceutical benefit managers, claiming they colluded to drive up the price of insulin.

The lawsuit filed Thursday lists among the defendants the three biggest manufacturers of insulin, Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk and Sanofi.

The other defendants are Aetna Rx, CVS Caremark, Express Scripts and OptumRx.

The aim of the suit is for the county to recover more than 27-million-dollars it has already paid to the companies.

Harris County provides health insurance for 38-thousand employees and their families, plus the inmates at the county jail.
