El Paso Walmart reopens today after August mass shooting

Volunteers stand with handmade crosses memorializing the victims of a mass shooting at a makeshift memorial outside Walmart, where a shooting took place in El Paso, Texas. Twenty-two people were killed in the Aug. 3 shooting.

The Walmart where a mass shooting happened in early August is set to open up for business again starting today.

The Cielo Vista Walmart in El Paso opens today for the first time after the shooting that was responsible for the deaths of 22-people on August 3rd.

Additionally, the spontaneously created memorial for the victims is being relocated to a nearby city park.

The peoples’ memorial to the victims has grown to become over a half mile in length alongside the Cielo Vista Walmart since  August.

With the help of El Paso Museum of Art, the El Paso Museum of History and the Public Art Program, the city is accounting for the makeshift memorial piece by piece in order to leave permanent record of what has become part of El Paso’s history.
