The city of El Paso could soon have new marijuana rules on the books.
In a meeting yesterday, city council members took a look at changing the ordinance on marijuana arrests to a cite and release policy for anyone caught with a small quantity of pot, for example less than from one to four ounces.
The Texas Tribune reports that Department of Public Safety troopers have been engaged in a similar practice around the state since mid-summer.
City staffers are now set to find out what local law enforcement agencies think about the proposal.
No date was set for a final decision on the matter.
