Castro fails to qualify for latest debate, but is still in the race

Julian Castro won’t be participating in next week’s Democratic presidential debate, but he’s not dropping out of the race.

The former mayor of San Antonio failed to meet the minimum polling threshold set by the Democratic National Committee to qualify for the fifth debate in Atlanta next Wednesday.

Castro is still campaigning in the early voting states of Iowa and Nevada, as well as his home state of Texas.

Of the 12 candidates in last month’s debate, only Castro and fellow Texan Beto O’Rourke won’t be back for this month’s event.

O’Rourke dropped out of the race two weeks ago.
