Hong Kong Protesters burn Lebron jerseys

Protestors for democracy in Hong Kong have trampled over and burned Lebron James’ jerseys after his comments about the movement.

The NBA and China feud all started with the general manager for the Houston Rockets, Daryl Morey, tweeted out a picture in support of the anti-government protestors on October 4th.

The light that ignited Hong Kong’s fire on Lebron was his response to Morey’s tweet, acknowledging his freedom of speech “but at times there are ramifications for the negative that can happen when you’re not thinking about others, when you only think about yourself.”

He continued in saying “So many people could have been harmed, not only financially but physically, emotionally, spiritually. So just be careful what we tweet and what we say and what we do. Even though yes, we do have freedom of speech, it can be a lot of negative that comes with it.”

Former fans of Lebron say that he is using his popularity to press on the social issues in the States, but many say that he is more concerned about money over people. Lebron might be looking to hold on to his massive Nike contract by keeping the industries’ interest in China happy.

Lebron could be a puppet for the NBA to try and mend the league’s relationship with China by seeming to be disapproving of the democracy in Hong Kong.
