Gerrit Cole led the Astros beat the Rays 6-1 last night to win the ALDS in Houston.
The Astros got on the board early with their first 4 batters getting back-to-back-to-back-to-back hits. Altuve singled to get to the first run on the board and then Bregman followed up with a double to bring in 2 runs. Then Gurriel followed up with another single to get make the score 4-0 in the first.
The next inning, Tampa’s Eric Sogard hit a 377-foot homer to give the Rays some life. Unfortunately for the Rays, they only got one hit after the homer.
Later in the bottom of the 8th, Michael Brantley and Jose Altuve hit back-to-back home runs to extend their lead.
Gerrit Cole pitched 8 innings and only allowed 2 hits, one earned run, and 10 strikeouts. Roberto Osuna finished by finishing out in the 9th and getting a strikeout to end the game.
The Astros will now host the Yankees tomorrow night in Houston with the first pitch set for 7:08 PM on Fox.
