The NFL Season Begins with the Packers and Bears Rivalry

The 100th season of the NFL starts off with two teams with nearly one hundred years of extreme hatred towards each other: the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears.

Aaron Rodgers is coming to visit one of the most explosive defensive players, Khalil Mack, tonight at 7:20 PM CDT at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Last year, Rodgers led a 20-3 comeback in the 4th quarter to beat the Bears back in Green Bay. But later in the season when they played again in Chicago, the Bears’ win helped them clinch the NFC North, eliminating the Packers from getting into the playoffs. Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears ended up losing to the Eagles last year from a slightly blocked 43-yard field goal that hit the upright and crossbar of the goal.

The Packers are currently in a three-year playoff drought after they lost against the Atlanta Falcons in the Conference Championship back in 2016. To try and solve this problem, the Packers decided to fire their head coach, Mike McCarthy, who had been with the team for twelve years. Matt LaFleur now will lead the team to a bounce-back year from going 6-9-1 last season.

On the other side of the ball, the Chicago Bears had amazing season last year by going 12-4 and acquiring the superstar defender, Khalil Mack. The Bears traded away two first-round picks and many later round picks to the Oakland Raiders to receive the current highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. Finishing with 12.5 sacks last year, (which was nearly more than the entire Raiders defense) Mack has established the feared Chicago defense once again.
