The “Molly Jane Law” is now in effect in Texas.
An official ceremony was held Friday in Austin, where Gov. Greg Abbott signed the bill into law. It creates a statewide database for tracking down repeat sex offenders.
The act is named for 22-year-old college student Molly Matheson, who was raped and murdered in her Fort Worth apartment in 2017.
Her suspected killer was also a suspect in prior attacks.
The new law requires Texas police departments to enter info into an FBI database for every sex crime they investigate.
