Former Texas Tech basketball superstar Andre Emmett was shot this morning in Dallas.
Current head coach Chris Bear named him a “Tech legend” and “arguably the best player in program history.
Andre Emmett played at Tech from 2001-2004 where he averaged 17.7 points per game and is still the all-time leading scorer in the school’s history. In 2004, he won the NCAA Slam Dunk Contest and was a three-time first-team All-Big 12 player. Emmett is apart of Texas Tech’s Ring of Honor and has his name engraved in the United Supermarkets Arena.
Later in 2004, Emmett was selected as the 35th overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics and later played for the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Jersey Nets. After a couple of seasons, Emmett played in the D-League where he was a two time NBA D-League All-Star and the All-Star MVP in 2015.
Andre then went on to play in the Big 3 league where he was taken as the second overall pick in 2018. He was a leading MVP candidate and brought his team to have one of the most electrifying playoff runs in the league’s history.
The Dallas native and Lubbock legend, Andre Emmett, will never be forgotten.
