The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers last night 34-27 in a back and forth shootout.
The Packers got on the board first with a rushing touchdown from Aaron Jones on the goal line and the surprisingly solid Green Bay defense held the Eagles to no points in the first quarter. Aaron Rodgers seemed to only throw to Davante Adams as he ended up with 8 catches for 158 yards by halftime.
The Eagles came back in the second quarter on fire by scoring 21 to Green Bay’s 13. With receiver DeSean Jackson out with an injury, the Eagles’ main receiver Alshon Jeffery had to deal with a calf injury from last week, still caught a 6-yard touchdown. Tight end Dallas Goedert later caught a touchdown with Jordan Howard running in a touchdown to lead the Packers 21-13. But one of the best players with under two minutes remaining, Aaron Rodgers threw two passes in a row to Geronimo Allison, the second being a wide-open 19-yard touchdown to have a halftime score of 21-20 Packers.
Late in the third quarter, Carson Wentz threw a 20-yarder score to Jordan Howard but then failed the two-point conversion. Rodgers answered back with a touchdown pass to veteran Jimmy Graham to tie the game with 27.
Then early in the fourth, Jordan Howard got his third touchdown on the night with a 2-yard run to gain the lead. After some failed drives and Davante Adams going down with a toe injury, Aaron Rodgers drove down the field with 5 minutes remaining and fought all the way to the goal line after many runs from Aaron Jones to shave off 3 minutes. Then of second and goal from Philly’s 3-yard line, Rodgers threw a slant in the middle that bounced off Marquez Valdes-Scantling from great coverage and was intercepted by Nigel Bradham.
Although it was such a great game to watch, there were two major injuries resulting in players needing to be carted off the field on a stretcher. Both Packers’ running back Jamaal Williams and Eagles’ corner Avonte Maddox seemed to have head and neck injuries. Thoughts and prayers go out to those two to have safe surgeries and the ability to play football again.
