The Dallas Cowboys and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence are at an impasse on contract talks. The Cowboys initially offered a deal that was worth $17 million annually, but raised it to roughly $20 million, but Lawrence and his team want $22.5 million annually, and with him pushing off shoulder surgery, contract talks are getting more and more difficult.
Dallas put the franchise tag on Lawrence which guarantees him $20.5 million this season, but he is set on wanting a new deal and won’t play on the franchise tag, but Lawrence doesn’t want to play on the franchise tag.
The Cowboys recently cited Lawrence’s shoulder, which needs surgery. He’s put the surgery off for a while, and it is now effecting the contract negotiations with the Cowboys.
Jerry and Stephen Jones have both stated on numerous occasions that Dallas has made Lawrence their top priority this off season, and the goal is to get a contract extension done before the July 15th deadline.
