LUBBOCK——The Texas Tech Red Raiders hosted the Oklahoma Sooners inside the Jones AT&T Stadium as they celebrated energy day as for the 16th in Texas Tech football history 60,000 plus were in attendance.
Tech falls to the Sooners in a thriller with a score of 51-46. Tech has now lost 2 games in a row.
Tech started of the game very well as Senior Safety Vaughnte Dorsey picked of Kyler Murray twice, which led to a 14-0 lead for the Red Raiders. “thought he played with a lot of juice, was hitting hard like he always does and had a great energy out there”. Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury said.
However, OU would bounce back as Murrary threw a 16-yard touchdown to cut the Tech lead in half. The following drive Tech marched down the field in 10- plays to kick a 50 yard field goal to take a 17-7 lead.
Both teams continued to score back-and-forth and in just six-plays the Sooners pushed the score to 17-14. Following the OU drive tech came back with a positive one of their own as Bowman threw a 45-yard touchdown pass Ward.
Neither team could stop one another in the first half and at the break Tech led 31-28.
As the 2nd half started Bowman had an injury late in the 2nd quarter that caused him to miss the remainder of the game, which left Jett Duffey finish the game at Quarterback.
In the fourth quarter Tech found themselves down 35-34 and with 11:54 remaining the Sooners scored on an eight-play, 75-yard drive. As the quarter went on the Red Raiders couldn’t regain their lead back.
Tech fought hard to keep the game close, with 6:52 left on the clock Tech scored a touchdown to make the score 42-40. The Red Raiders failed on the 2-point conversion as Robert Barnes ran back it back for a 100-yard interception to make the score 44-42.
The Sooners would eventually seal the game with 30 yard touchdown run from Trey Sermon with 2:51 left on the clock.
Tech falls to a 3-3 in the Big 12 with an 5-4 overall record.
Tech’s next game is this coming Saturday November 10th at 6:30 P.M. in Lubbock as they celebrate America. The Red Raiders look to bounce back as try to become bowl eligible with just 3 games left.
