LUBBOCK—- It was homecoming weekend here in Lubbock as the Texas Tech Red Raiders took on the Kansas Jayhawks inside the Jones AT&T Stadium. Tech was looking to improve their 4-2 overall record as Freshman Quarterback Alan Bowman suited for the first time in over two weeks with rib injury.
In the first half Tech’s stout defense showed up by only allowing 3 points and got key stops when Kansas was inside the red zone. “You know we, we knew we had to get out there and do what we had to do to stop them” Senior Linebacker Kolin Hill.
Tech’s offense seemed to be in sync all game long especially the passing game as Bowman completed 36 of his 46 attempts for 408 yards, along with 3 touchdowns. “Looked like he never even had an injury, to be honest. He did a good job today”. Junior Receiver Antoine Wesley.
Tech’s defense was the big story in this game, they only gave up 308 total yards and 87 of them were rushing. ” Stopping the run takes care of itself as far as the pass game and everything. Just stopping the run is very important for us” Hill said.
In the 2nd half Tech continued to dominate on both sides of the ball as they scored 24 points in the half to put the game out of reach and only allowed 13 points on defense throughout the rest of the game.
The Red Raiders are now 4th in the Big 12 with a 3-1 record and will head up to Ames to face-off against Iowa State next Saturday at 11 a.m. Tech has struggles against the Cyclones over the past two years, but looks to get their first win since 2015. “ We got to focus on Iowa State, they’ve had our number we got to play a lot better against them” Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury.
