The Texas Tech Red Raiders hosted the West Virginia Mountaineers inside the Jones AT&T Stadium. Tech lost 42-34 in dramatic fashion. Tech falls to a 3-2 overall record with a 1-1 record in the Big 12.
In the first half Tech was vastly outplayed coming out flat offensively and defensively. “They came out and dominated us and if you get down to a team like that you don’t stand a chance” Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury said. Techs defense gave up over 300 yards in the first half alone causing the Red Raiders to be down 35-10 at the half. Late in the 2nd quarter Freshman Quarterback Alan Bowman was sandwiched between two WVU defenders causing him to leave the game and would not return.
With Bowman, out Tech had to play Sophomore Jett Duffey, who tried to lead a comeback. He brought a different dynamic to the game with his running ability and brought the Red Raiders back within a touchdown. “He fought for his teammates and knows how to compete”. Kingsbury said.
Duffey ultimately threw a pick-six ending the game late in the fourth quarter. Tech fought hard to get back in the game but it wasn’t enough, fortunately they have a bye week coming up and don’t play for 12 days to get things figured out. “We have 12 days to prepare for a good TCU team and we know they will give us their best shot”. Senior Safety Jah’Shawn Johnson said.
Tech will look to bounce back October 11th as they face off against the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth.
