LUBBOCK — The Texas Tech Red Raiders hosted the University of Houston Cougars inside the Jones AT&T stadium. Tech won 63-49 in historic fashion led by true Freshman Quarterback Alan Bowman and Junior Receiver Antoine Wesley and improved their record to 2-1 on the season.
Bowman broke the Big 12 Freshman single game passing record with 605 yards along with 5 passing touchdowns. “ I like how he’s progressed he did a nice job going through his reads”. Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury said.
Wesley also had a tremendous night breaking the single game receiving record in Texas Tech history with 13 receptions for 261 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns. “You have to give him a lot of credit he had to deal with rehab this offseason and he came back stronger and better”. Kingsbury said.
With starting Running Back Da’Leon Ward out with an injury the Tech offense leaned heavily on Freshman Ta’Zhawn Henry who had a breakout performance with 111 yards rushing and 4 Touchdowns.
Although the scoreboard might not say so Techs defense played well and when they needed to and got crucial stops in crunch time led by Senior Linebacker Dakota Allen who led the team in tackles with 9 and Junior Linebacker Jordyn Brooks who had 8 tackles.
The Red Raiders next week will start Big 12 play against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater. Tech will look to start of the season 1-0 in conference play.
