(Austin, TX) — The Texas Education Agency is thinking of eliminating more than 200 cosmetology programs at high schools statewide.
The TEA plans to cut career and technical education, or CTE, programs that prepare students for professions that pay less than the new CTE target salary.
All of the programs set to be cut are under the cosmetology heading.
Students and teachers in the programs say they provide students a way to work through college, or something to do instead of college.
They say students leave the programs with no student debt.
