(Tornillo, TX) — State and federal officials say a West Texas detention facility for illegal immigrant children will remain open for another month.
The center was built in June and was scheduled to shut down in July, but federal officials then extended the contract with its service provider until today.
A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families says the center will now be open until September 13th.
The facility provides tent space for unaccompanied minors who entered the country illegally.
