SA City Council Imposes Paid Sick Leave Requirement

(San Antonio, TX) — San Antonio businesses will now be required to provide paid sick leave to their employees.

City Council voted 9-2 on Thursday to impose the mandate on all businesses other than government entities and school districts.

After a grassroots coalition collected more than 100-thousand signatures in a petition drive, City Council could either approve the ordinance or put the issue on the November ballot for voters to decide.

The law takes effect next August for businesses with more than five workers, and in 2021 for those with five or fewer.
