(San Antonio, TX) — September 18th is the date set by Gov. Greg Abbott for the special election runoff to replace former state Senator Carlos Uresti.
The runoff contenders are Republican Pete Flores and Democrat Pete Gallego, the top two finishers in a field of eight who ran in the special election’s first round last month.
Republicans are challenging Gallego’s eligibility, claiming he doesn’t live in the district, but the Texas secretary of state has certified the candidates for the runoff.
Uresti, a Democrat, resigned after a fraud conviction earlier this year.
