(Austin, TX) — A three-judge federal court panel is giving the state a deadline to redraw the map of a congressional district the court found discriminatory.
The court had originally found problems in 11 Texas districts, but the U.S. Supreme Court upheld all but one of them.
House District 90, a Fort Worth-area district held by a Democrat, is still out of compliance.
The court says the Texas legislature must introduce a redistricting bill within the first 45 days of its 2019 session.
Otherwise the court will redraw the district itself ahead of the 2020 elections.
