(San Antonio, TX) — San Antonio’s highest-ranking clergyman is in agreement with the Pope’s denunciation of the death penalty.
On Thursday, Pope Francis declared the death penalty to be “inadmissible” under any circumstances, and said the Roman Catholic Church must work to abolish it.
Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller points out that the Texas Conference of Catholic Bishops called for the abolition of capital punishment in 2016.
Support for the death penalty has risen to 54 percent of Americans, and 53 percent among American Catholics.
