(San Antonio, TX) — Dozens of state driver’s license offices will remain open despite the Department of Public Safety’s recommendation to close them.
The DPS wanted to shut down 87 offices, including some in the greater San Antonio area, in order to streamline its operations.
But the Sunset Advisory Commission rejected the idea on Wednesday.
Several of the commission’s members pointed out that some of the rural offices are the only ones in their counties.
Residents would have to drive to a driver’s license office in a neighboring county.
