(Houston, TX) — State Senator Sylvia Garcia plans to resign from her state seat next year because she’s now running for U.S. Congress.
The Houston Democrat has represented state District 6 since 2013.
Garcia is in the running for the 29th Congressional District seat, which is being vacated by Democrat Gene Green.
Garcia has called on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to order a special election in November to fill the seat, so as to ensure the district will be represented in the next legislative session.
She faces GOP candidate Phillip Aronoff in November.
