(Houston, TX) — On Friday of next week, NASA will announce the astronauts who will fly in the first flight tests of a pair of commercial spacecraft.
The astronauts will be assigned to the SpaceX Crew Dragon and the Boeing Starliner, which the two companies developed under contract to carry crews to the International Space Station.
Ever since the Space Shuttle program ended in 2011, NASA crews have had to hitch rides into orbit aboard Russian spacecraft.
NASA’s administrator will be in Houston for the announcement at the Johnson Space Center.
