(San Antonio, TX) — The San Antonio firefighters union is suing the city over the enforcement of free speech zones.
At issue is a free speech zone at the Semmes Branch Library on Judson Road.
Members of the union are required to remain in the zone while trying to collect petition signatures from library patrons.
But the zone is nearly 300 feet from the library’s front door.
The city says the zone is placed in such a way as to give library guests some distance from people engaging in politics.
The union is petitioning to make three changes to the city’s charter.
