(Washington, DC) — Facebook officials say they have detected another influence operation ahead of 2018 midterm elections.
The social media giant told Congress it had removed 32 pages and accounts from Facebook and Instagram that it deemed fakes and engaged in political efforts to influence this year’s midterm elections. Facebook is trying to recover from the Cambridge Analytica scandal, where U.S. intelligence agents say Russian agents were able to use personal data to try and influence the 2016 election. Facebooks said the current investigation is just beginning and they could not tie those fake accounts they disabled to Russia at this time.
