(Fort Worth, TX) — American Airlines is confirming that it changed the way its website refers to Taiwan in order to appease the Chinese government.
The Fort Worth-based carrier joined United and Delta, the nation’s other largest airlines, in making the change by the Wednesday deadline.
The website now refers to the Taipei airport by its city name and airport code, but without mentioning Taiwan.
For months, China has been insisting the airlines refer to Taiwan as part of China.
