Accused DWI Cop Killer Could Get Stiffer Sentence Thanks To State Law

(Dallas, TX) — A man accused of the DWI death of a Dallas police officer may get a stiffer sentence than the usual if he’s convicted, according to a state law.

Adrian Breedlove is accused of intoxication manslaughter for last weekend’s death of Dallas Police Senior Corporal Jamie Givens.

Because the accident caused the death of a peace officer, the Medlin-Freeto Act says Breedlove could get life in prison.

The act was signed into law by Governor Rick Perry ten years ago and is named for two North Texas officers killed in the line of duty by drunk drivers.
