Rex Tillerson
(Washington, DC) — There’s another shakeup in the Trump administration and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is out. President Trump fired Tillerson today and noted some disagreements. Outside the White House, he also called Tillerson a good man and wished him well. Tillerson is a former ExxonMobil CEO who has had a tense relationship with the Trump White House. He reportedly called Trump a “moron” last year in a meeting with some other officials at the Pentagon.
Trump is nominating CIA Director Mike Pompeo to replace Tillerson as secretary of state. Trump said he and Pompeo are on the “same wavelength.” He also called Pompeo a man of great intellect and energy. Meantime, Trump has chosen Gina Haspel to replace Pompeo. If confirmed by the Senate, she would be the first female director of the CIA. Haspel is a veteran CIA operative who currently serves as the deputy director of the agency.
