(Washington, DC) — A top U.S. immigration official is urging Congress to end so-called chain migration, where people use family connections to enter the U.S.
In a White House briefing today, Francis Cissna said the suspect in this week’s New York City terror attack came into the U.S. legally. He said the Bangladeshi man entered through a family connection to his uncle, a U.S. citizen.
Cissna is the director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. He also called for an end to diversity visa lotteries.
Cissna said U.S. immigration policies must be smarter.
