(Richmond, VA) — Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe says he has a way to increase the number of badly-needed teachers across the state. On Monday, McAuliffe ordered the Board of Education to set in place an emergency rule that allows public colleges to begin offering undergraduate students a major in education. Usually, colleges in the state require teaching students to first complete a bachelor’s in a particular subject area. McAuliffe says the order will significantly reduce the cost and shorten the learning period for students, in many cases by a year.
