(Houston, TX) — Police are looking for the suspect in a failed attempt at a smash-and-grab robbery at Memorial City Mall that triggered a panic about a possible active shooter.
Reports of shots fired came in at 7:45 on Saturday evening, after a robber with a hammer tried to smash a jewelry case at Ben Bridge Jeweler. He ran away empty-handed, but rumors of a shooter sent holiday shoppers and mall employees running for cover and headed for the exits. Dozens of police officers showed up to block traffic in the area.
The situation was soon under control.
