(Washington, DC) — The big Republican tax bill is virtually assured of passage, probably next week. Tennessee Republican Senator Bob Corker reversed positions and said he will vote for the final bill. Corker had been opposed due to concerns about the deficit. The GOP measure is projected to add more than one-trillion dollars to the deficit over 10 years. Meantime, Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio said he will support the final bill. Rubio had been on the fence because of concerns about child tax credits. He said the issue was resolved during negotiations on the final bill.
Republicans need all the votes they can muster in the closely-divided Senate. All Senate Democrats are expected to vote no. Democrats call the GOP measure a massive giveaway to the nation’s wealthiest people and corporations. House Republicans have more than enough votes to pass the final bill.
