(El Paso, TX) — A wall of bologna is now in federal custody after it was seized at the U.S.-Mexico border.
A woman driving into the U.S. through the border checkpoint at El Paso, Texas told U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents she wasn’t carrying any fruits, vegetables, meat or any contraband. She did tell agents she was carrying sausage.
A search revealed some 227 pounds of Mexican bologna stashed under the floor mats in the vehicle.
Bologna is considered contraband because it has the potential of introducing foreign diseases into the U.S. pork industry. The woman was fined one-thousand dollars.
