Congo Attack

(North Kivu, Congo) — At least 14 UN peacekeepers are dead after an attack in the Congo. The UN says the soldiers were killed in what is being described as a “huge attack” in the eastern province of North Kivu. U.N. Secretary General Antonio Gutteres says at least 40 more people are injured, four of them critically, and at least five members of the Armed Forces of Congo are dead. No U.S. casualties are being reported at this time. Gutteres said military reinforcements have arrived on the scene and medical evacuations are ongoing. This is the worst attack on UN peacekeepers in the organization’s recent history.
