(Washington, DC) — A case challenging the constitutionality of Maryland’s ban on assault weapons will not be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.
In February, the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia ruled that military-style rifles and high-capacity magazines are not protected by the Second Amendment.
The nation’s highest court declined to take up an appeal of the ruling by a group including gun owners, stores and firearms industry associations. Maryland lawmakers passed what is considered to be one of the strictest gun control measures in the nation in the months after the deadly 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut.
