(Washington, DC) — The State Department is issuing a holiday travel alert for Europe. Americans are being advised to use caution when visiting tourist attractions, festivals, outdoor markets and other popular locations. The alert notes the heightened risk of terrorist attacks throughout Europe, especially during the holiday season. It reminds travelers of last year’s mass casualty attacks at a Christmas market in Berlin and a crowded night club in Istanbul, Turkey on New Year’s Eve. The State Department’s travel website will update information on specific countries. The travel alert runs through January 31st.
